MARY ANNA POMONIS

Mary Anna Pomonis is a Los Angeles-based artist. In January of 2025 Pomonis’s solo show Quiver, at Alto Beta Gallery burned in the Eaton Wildfire, eleven months later she opened a solo show in response to her loss, She Who Holds the Sun, at Charlie James Gallery in Los Angeles.      

Pomonis has exhibited in notable galleries and institutions, including the Wignall Museum of Contemporary Art, The Western Carolina University Museum of Fine Arts, the Torrance Art Museum, the Lancaster Museum of Art and History, and the Art Museum at SUNY Potsdam. Her work has been covered by prominent publications such as the Los Angeles Times, The Art Newspaper, Cultured, Art Forum, Whitehot Magazine, Smithsonian, ArtNews, and Artweek. Her curatorial projects and essays have been showcased in various museums and gallery spaces across Southern California.

Pomonis is the founder of CSUF Just Arts, a campus-wide initiative dedicated to fostering creative collaborations that emphasize social justice and community engagement. Through this program, she works with faculty to connect students with activism and collective support via community service teaching with Project Rebound. She is also the founder of the Association of Hysteric Curators, a feminist collective based in Los Angeles. From 2024 - 2027, The Collective’s group show, Goddesses and Monsters, will travel across the United States in exhibition venues ending at the Wignall Museum of Contemporary Art and Los Angeles Valley College.

Pomonis is currently an Associate Professor of Art at California State University, Fullerton, and the director of Graduate Programs in Art. Her achievements include recieving, the BlueRoof Firefly Residency in 2025, the Junior and Senior Faculty Research Grants in 2022 and 2024, respectively, and the Distinguished Legacy Award from the University of Illinois in 2022. In 2025, she was nominated again for the Joan Mitchell award.
